I Am In Control Day, Take a Walk in the Park Day, more

March 30th, 2011, is I Am In Control Day, Take a Walk in the Park Day, The Grass Is Always Browner on the Other Side of the Fence Day, National Pencil Day, National Doctors' Day, and Turkey Neck Soup Day.

On this date in 1981 Secretary of State Alexander Haig promised the United States that he was in control, following an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. As a result today is known, rather tongue-in-cheek, as I Am In Control Day.

What to do on Take a Walk in the Park Day? Should be obvious. Relax and smell the (whatever flowers are blooming in your part of the world).

In honor of The Grass Is Always Browner on the Other Side of the Fence Day, try to be content with what you have. Don't covet your neighbor's wife, car, lawn, or iPad.

National Pencil Day is a time to celebrate your....pencils. There's actually a poem about pencils that will warm your heart.

Take time to appreciate your favorite doctor(s) today, National Doctors' Day. This date is the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery - and for that, we can be grateful.

Turkey Neck Soup Day - comfort food doesn't get any more comforting. I also have an updated version I've concocted - Turducken Soup.
