Squid Day, Kick Butt Day, Columbus Day, more

October 10th, 2011, is Squid Day, National Kick Butt Day, National Cake Decorating Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving (Canada), Native Americans' Day, Bonza Bottler Day, Double Tenth Day, Moi Day, World Mental Health Day, Fiji Day, Health and Sports Day, and Angel Food Cake Day.

Squid Day, also known as Cuttlefish Day or Squittleday, is part of the  Cephalopod Days celebration.

National Kick Butt Day isn't a day for violence against the posteriors of others. Rather, it's a day to kick your own posterior into action.

Try a new outlet for your creativity today, National Cake Decorating Day.

Christopher Columbus didn't discover America, since Native Americans were already living there, but he did bring awareness to Europe and prove that the earth isn't flat. The second Monday in October is celebrated as Columbus Day.

The second Monday in October is Thanksgiving in Canada, a time to give thanks for the year's harvest and good fortune.

Some parts of the United States observe Native Americans' Day along with (or instead of) Columbus Day. The day is also observed by some as Indigenous People's Day.

Bonza Bottler Day occurs every month when the month's number and the date are the same. Today is 10/10!

Taiwan observes Double Tenth Day on October 10th, commemorating the Wuch'ang Uprising of 1911. Events include a parade and a presidential speech.

Moi Day honors a former president of Kenya, Daniel arap Moi.

Today is World Mental Health Day. The theme for 2011 is "investing in mental health."

Fiji observes Fiji Day on October 10th, featuring religious and cultural events.

Japan celebrates Health and Sports Day on the second Monday in October, commemorating the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The event is celebrated in October to avoid summer rains. Children are the focus, with many activities that encourage exercise and healthy competition.

Feel free to indulge on Angel Food Cake Day. This cake is light and low-fat!
