No Beard Day, Boost Your Brain Day, more

October 18th, 2011, is No Beard Day, Boost Your Brain Day, World Menopause Day, Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity, Saint Luke Feast Day, Independence Day (Azerbaijan), Alaska Day, and National Chocolate Cupcake Day.

Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity is a day for silent protest against abortion in the United States. Participants wear red arm bands and duct tape, and also distribute informational fliers.

October 18th is the Feast Day of Saint Luke. He is the patron saint of physicians and surgeons.

Azerbaijan observes Independence Day on October 18th, celebrating independence from the Soviet Union since 1991.

Alaska Day commemorates the day in 1867 when the United States purchased Alaska from Russia. The theme for the festival in 2011 is "Celebrating Alaskan Aviation."

Who doesn't love chocolate cake, and who doesn't love portable snacks? Combine the two and you've got chocolate cupcakes, one of my daughter's favorite foods. October 18th is National Chocolate Cupcake Day.
