Barefoot Sunday, World Environment Day, Gingerbread Day, more

June 5th, 2011, is Barefoot Sunday, World Environment Day, Children's Awareness Memorial Day, National Cancer Survivors Day, Constitution Day and Father's Day (Denmark), and National Gingerbread Day.

Barefoot Week continues with Barefoot Sunday. On June 5th or any Sunday in June, congregations are invited to hold barefoot worship services and collect funds for Soles4Souls. That organization supplies shoes to needy children around the world.

The theme of World Environment Day 2011 is "Forests: Nature At Your Service," in conjunction with the UN's International Year of Forests. This year's host country is India.

Children's Awareness Memorial Day is a time to remember American children who died violent deaths.

National Cancer Survivors Day is always celebrated on the first Sunday in June. This year is the 24th annual event.

Constitution Day and Father's Day are both celebrated today in Denmark. Their constitution took effect in 1849.

Gingerbread puts me in the mood for Christmas, but for some reason June 5th is National Gingerbread Day. Ho ho ho - merry Gingerbread Day!
