Rain Day takes place every July 29th in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, when citizens gather to check for rain. As of 2010, it rained 112 out of the last 136 years. The strange observance began when a farmer mentioned to a local drug store owner that it would rain the following day, July 29th. When the drug store owner asked why, the farmer explained that the date was his birthday, and his journal showed that it almost always rained on his birthday. Reek Sunday is observed in Ireland on the last Sunday in July. Up to 25,000 pilgrims climb Saint Patrick Mountain, also known as Croagh Patrick or the Reek. Many climb the mountain barefoot! Saint Patrick is said to have fasted on this mountain before throwing a bell down the side, banishing all snakes from Ireland.
Despite the fact that you're supposed to use the cheese you buy today to bait mousetraps, today is National Lasagna Day. Oh well, just plan to buy your ricotta and mozzarella yesterday.
