Talk Like a Pirate Day, Butterscotch Pudding Day, more

September 19th, 2011, is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Respect for the Aged Day, and National Butterscotch Pudding Day.

Avast, me mateys! Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrr! If you need help with your "pirattude," Ol' Chumbucket and Cap'n Slappy are here to help:

Japan observes Respect for the Aged Day on the third Monday in September. Nice idea for a holiday, but shouldn't we respect the aged every day?

September 19th is National Butterscotch Pudding Day. Sounds delicious. Butterscotch contains butter, but it has nothing to do with whiskey or being Scottish. According to wordorigins.org: "The scotch in butterscotch comes from the Middle English scocchen, and from there probably from the Old French coche and the Latin Vulgate cocca, meaning a notch or nick. The candy was notched, or scored, to make it easier to break into pieces"
