Family Day, European Day of Languages, more

September 26th, 2011, is Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children, European Day of Languages, Lumberjack Day, and Johnny Appleseed Day.

Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children was founded by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University in 2001. Their philosophy is simple: "The more often kids eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs."

Today is the tenth annual European Day of Languages. The celebration involves forty-seven countries. Learn some foreign phrases, host a party, or find other ways to celebrate.

Lumberjack Day was created by Marianne Ways and Colleen AF Venable in 2005, not only as an excuse to eat pancakes and waffles, but also as an alternative to Talk Like a Pirate Day (celebrated a week prior). Today's holiday is also known as Talk Like a Lumberjack Day, Eat Like a Lumberjack Day, Attack Wooden Objects Like a Lumberjack Day, and Today's Awesome Because You Totally Don't Have to Bathe Day.

Johnny Appleseed Day commemorates the 1774 birth date of a man famous for planting apple seeds throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
