Lazy Moms Day, Skyscraper Day, Bacon Day, more

August 3rd, 2011, is National Lazy Moms Day, National Hummingbird Day, Skyscraper Day, National Welsh Rarebit Day, and International Bacon Day.

National Lazy Moms Day falls on a Saturday this year - nice! Be lazy in whatever form suits you, whether that means having the kids pick up your slack, vegging on the sofa with the remote, or playing tennis instead of doing the laundry. It's your call, moms!

The first Saturday of September is National Hummingbird Day. Do the hummingbirds know this? I'll watch for them today, flittering near our butterfly bushes and honeysuckle vines.

If you're in or near a large city, take time to admire the beauty and engineering miracle that is the modern skyscraper. Today is Skyscraper Day.

If you love cheese and beer, here's the holiday for you - National Welsh Rarebit Day. Some call it "Welsh Rabbit," but I prefer "Welsh Rarebit." Learn more about the etymology here.

The Saturday before the first Monday in September is International Bacon Day. With apologies to everyone not allowed to eat this porky delight, bacon is possibly nature's most delectable food. Check out this tribute to bacon from The Trend Police.
