Coastal Cleanup Day, Big Whopper Liars' Contest, more

September 17th, 2011, is International Coastal Cleanup Day, Big Whopper Liars' Contest, Constitution Day, National Gymnastics Day, Boys & Girls Club Days for Kids, Idaho Spud Day, National Apple Dumpling Day, and International Eat an Apple Day.

The third Saturday in September is International Coastal Cleanup Day, the world's largest volunteer effort for ocean health.

New Harmony, Indiana hosts the Big Whopper Liars' Contest on the third Saturday in September. Or do they?

Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the United States Constitution in 1787.

Today is National Gymnastics Day, and the 2011 theme is "The Year of the Handstand." U.S. Gymnastics hopes to organize gymnasts across the U.S. to do handstands at precisely 1:00 p.m. ET, to set a world record. Funds raised will benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

Boys & Girls Club Days for Kids is celebrated at Boys & Girls Clubs across the United States and on military installations overseas. Events include festivals, carnivals, and picnics.

Shelley, Idaho hosts Idaho Spud Day today, celebrating the potato harvest. Activities include a parade, free baked spuds, a spud tug, and a potato picking contest.

I've never had an apple dumpling. Maybe it's time to rectify that situation, since today is National Apple Dumpling Day.

Maybe you're not in the mood for apple dumplings, but you still like apples. Have one straight from tthe tree or in some other recipe, because today is International Eat an Apple Day.
