Women's Equality Day commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote in the United States, in 1920. Representative Bella Abzug of New York inspired Congress to designate this holiday in 1971.
Daffodil Day is the premiere fundraising and awareness event sponsored by the Cancer Society, observed in the Southern Hemisphere in August while daffodils are in bloom. "The daffodil is one of the first flowers of spring, whose bright yellow blooms remind us of the joys the new season will bring. It represents the hope there is for the 1 in 3 New Zealanders affected by cancer."
Namibia observes Heroes Day on August 26th, remembering when the first bullet was fired in their fight for liberty in 1966.
