Waste-Not Wednesday, Love a Mensch Day, Plum Puddng Day, more

February 12th, 2014, is Waste-Not Wednesday, Love a Mensch Day, Darwin Day, Oglethorpe Day, and National Plum Pudding Day.

Darwin Day, observed on the birth date of Charles Darwin, celebrates his theories and scientific exploration in general. Isn't the "mensch" the ultimate evolved man?

The U.S. state of Georgia celebrates Oglethorpe Day, honoring James Edward Oglethorpe, founder of Savannah and the colony's first governor. Oglethorpe and his British comrades landed in the area on this date in 1733. Georgia is named for King George II.

Believe it or not, plum pudding contains no plums, as we know them in the U.S., but instead features raisins, apples, cinnamon, and dates. Who knew? Anyway, have a happy National Plum Pudding Day.
