February 21st, 2014, is Card Reading Day, International Mother Language Day, Saviours' Day, In Memory of Father of Independence (Vanuatu), and National Sticky Bun Day.
Today is Card Reading Day. Brew some tea and go through your stash of romantic and charming greeting cards, send ecards to your friends, or visit a tarot card reader for advice.
The United Nations supports International Mother Language Day on February 21st. The theme for 2014 is, "Local languages for global citizenship: spotlight on science." Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, writes, "Local languages constitute the majority of languages spoken across our world in
the field of science. They are also the most endangered. Excluding languages
means excluding those who speak them from their fundamental human right to
scientific knowledge."
Vanuatu observes In Memory of Father of Independence, honoring Father Walter Lini.
National Sticky Bun Day has nothing to do with sitting on honey-coated chairs (in case you wondered). Bake up a batch of caramelly, sticky, gooey buns and enjoy.
