February 23rd, 2014, is Daytona 500, Tennis Day, Curling Is Cool Day, International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, and Banana Bread Day.
The Daytona 500 is NASCAR's biggest race, with 43 drivers and 500 intense miles. Each lap is 2.5 miles. How many laps make 500 miles? You do the math!
Tennis Day celebrates a game that was patented in 1874 by Major Walter Clopton Wingfield.
On Curling Is Cool Day, show some respect for a much-maligned sport. Curling is included in the Winter Olympics, after all. I like the team from Norway this year, just for their fun and fashion.
On International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, buy some fancy dog biscuits for your canine companions. Or, if you're truly ambitious, bake your own. (Personally, I don't find the need to bake special treats for someone who's happy to eat from a garbage can, but to each his own.)
If you have no dogs to bake for, bake some banana bread for yourself and your family today. This is an especially great idea if you have some bananas on the verge of blackness. Soft bananas make the best banana bread ever. Have a wonderful and happy Banana Bread Day!
