Go Barefoot Day, Hazelnut Cake Day, more

June 1st, 2013, is National Go Barefoot Day, Flip a Coin Day, Pen Pal Day, Say Something Nice Day, National Trails Day, Mindfulness Day, Dare Day, Heimlich Maneuver Day, Madaraka Day, Stand for Children Day, International Children's Day, and National Hazelnut Cake Day.

National Go Barefoot Day is a nice way to recognize the approach of summer weather. The event is sponsored by Soles4Souls, which collects donations and distributes shoes to those in need.

Heads for yes, tails for no - will you celebrate Flip a Coin Day?

Pen Pal Day honors a somewhat old-fashioned hobby. Are Facebook friends the modern version of pen pals? How about Twitter followers?

You know, you have beautiful eyes. And you're so loyal - visiting my blogs day after day! Share some compliments on Say Something Nice Day.

2013 brings the 21st annual National Trails Day. Take some time to enjoy nature's beauty.

Mindfulness Day is a Zen Buddhist holiday "for being mindful that you, and all that is, are in the process of transformation."

Today is Dare Day, not D.A.R.E. Day. Dare to do something exciting - disconnect from technology and explore reality!

Do you know how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver? Learn the technique online or in a class, just in case someone you care about starts to choke. You could save a life! Happy Heimlich Maneuver Day.

On June 1st Kenya celebrates Madaraka Day, the anniversary of the country's independence in 1963.

Stand for Children Day is a time to think about children in the world who lack basic needs, including safety, medical care, and education.

International Children's Day originated in 1925 in Geneva. Today the date is celebrated with festivals in many countries.

Today's foodie celebration is National Hazelnut Cake Day. Bake or buy - the choice is yours - or just schmeer some Nutella on any old cake!
