Thesaurus Day, Winnie the Pooh Day, Peking Duck Day

January 18th, 2013, is Thesaurus Day, Winnie the Pooh Day, and National Peking Duck Day.

Today is a joyous occasion for those of us who love words. Thesaurus Day celebrates the famous book of synonyms that helps writers express precise shades of meaning. According to Thesaurus.com, synonyms for "thesaurus" include: "glossary, language reference book, lexicon, onomasticon, reference book, sourcebook, storehouse of words, terminology, treasury of words, vocabulary, [and] word list." Onomasticon - who knew?

Winnie the Pooh Day honors that famous bear who loves honey, along with his creator, A.A. Milne, who was born on this date in 1882.

National Peking Duck Day celebrates a famous traditional dish of Beijing, China, which features delicious crispy skin. If you're serving this tonight, please invite me to join you!
