Beaufort Scale Day, Melanoma Monday, Homebrew Day, more

May 7th, 2012, is Beaufort Scale Day, Melanoma Monday, Victory in Europe Day, National Homebrew Day, and National Roast Leg of Lamb Day.

Beaufort Scale Day honors Sir Francis Beaufort, who devised the first scale for measuring the intensity of hurricanes.

The American Academy of Dermatology observes the first Monday in May as Melanoma Monday, to encourage self-examination and early detection of melanoma and other skin cancers.

Victory in Europe Day, also known as VE Day, commemorates the end of Hitler's Germany. The final document of surrender was signed on May 7th, 1945. Some countries celebrate this event on May 7th; others on May 8th.
