Dictionary Day commemorates the birth date of Noah Webster, author of A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language, considered to be the first American dictionary. Make a list of words you're unsure of - perhaps starting with "compendious" - then look them up!
Today is Ada Lovelace Day, "celebrating the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths." Spread the word about your favorite woman of science! Ada Lovelace, actually Lady Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, was a computing pioneer of sorts. She published an article about an Analytical Engine in 1842.
Feral Cat Day is meant to prevent unnecessary killing of outdoor cats, via spay/neuter programs and educational outreach.
