Lyrid Meteor Shower 2012

The 2012 Lyrid Meteor Shower is expected to be at its peak April 21st through early April 22nd. The new moon will hang in a dark sky, perfect for meteor-watching, especially in the darkest hour just before dawn. It's possible to see up to 20 meteors per hour.

Meteor showers are named for the constellation they appear to be near. The Lyrid Meteor Shower appears near the star Vega, part of the constellation Lyra the Lyre.
