April Fool's Day, St. Stupid's Day, Edible Book Festival, more

April 1st, 2011, is April Fool's Day, St. Stupid's Day, the International Edible Book Festival, Hug a Newsman Day, International Fun at Work Day, International Tatting Day, National Lupus Alert Day, Atheist Day, and National Sourdough Bread Day.

For April Fool's Day, play some pranks or serve some tricky sushi.

The 33rd annual St. Stupid's Day Parade takes place today in San Francisco, California. The celebration includes a number of odd rituals, including a sock exchange at the Pacific Stock Exchange.

Participate in the International Edible Book Festival by creating a food item that looks like (or is inspired by) a book. It's definitely a creative variation on April Fool's Day.

Today is Hug a Newsman Day (or woman), maybe because they have to cover so many goofy stories on April Fool's Day.

The theme for the 15th annual International Fun At Work Day is "Work like your Dog." Not sure what that means, exactly. I'll have to ask Shimmer, Official Dog of The Trend Police.

International Tatting Day is today. What, you may ask, is tatting? It's a charming art form involving hand-made lace.

National Lupus Alert Day brings awareness to an autoimmune disease that can be difficult to diagnose. Because lupus fools both patients and doctors, the Lupus Foundation chose April Fool's Day as the perfect time to promote their cause.

Atheist Day is presumably commemorated on April Fool's Day as a reference to Psalm 14 - "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God." Atheist Day is cause for celebration, discussion, or contempt, depending on your point of view.

Your kitchen will smell amazing if you choose to celebrate National Sourdough Bread Day with a freshly baked loaf.
