Checkers Day, Love Note Day, more

September 23rd, 2013, is Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children, Checkers Day, Dogs in Politics Day, Love Note Day, Celebrate Bisexuality Day, Bi Visibility Day, and Great American Pot Pie Day.

Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children was founded by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University in 2001. Their philosophy is simple: "The more often kids eat dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs."

Today is known as Checkers Day and Dogs in Politics Day, both thanks to Richard Nixon. While running for Vice President in 1952, he gave a September 23rd speech that came to be known as the "Checkers Speech." Checkers was the Nixon family dog.

If your love life could use a little boost, embrace the simple sentiment of Love Note Day. Write a poem or simply share your feelings from the heart. If the one you love loves you back, your gesture will be well rewarded!

Celebrate Bisexuality Day, known in the UK as Bi Visibility Day, is a time to replace biphobia with tolerance and understanding.

Today is Great American Pot Pie Day, sponsored by the famous pot pie maker Marie Callender.
