Saint Patrick's Day, Buzzard Sunday, Irish Coffee Day, more

March 17th, 2013, is Saint Patrick's Day, Submarine Day, Buzzard Sunday, Palindrome Day, Irish Coffee Day, and Corned Beef and Cabbage Day.

Saint Patrick's Day is the time to wear green in honor of the patron saint of Ireland. Go to a parade, have some corned beef, drink some green beer, and generally have fun!

On Submarine Day, celebrate sandwiches or underwater ships. You could eat a hoagie while listening to the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine."

The Sunday following March 15th is always observed as Buzzard Sunday in Hinckley, Ohio, USA.

CORRECTION: Today is actually the fifth Sunday of Lent! My apologies - movable holidays are slippery sometimes. Mothering Sunday is the British version of Mother's Day, always celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Other names for this holiday include Refreshment Sunday, Laetare Sunday, and Rose Sunday.

3/17/13 is yet another Palindrome Day - with numbers that read the same forward or in reverse.

Today and January 25th are celebrated as Irish Coffee Day. Cheers!

Mothering Sunday, Refreshment Sunday, Laetare Sunday, and Rose Sunday were all last Sunday, March 10, which was the fourth Sunday of Lent. March 17th is the fifth Sunday of Lent in 2013.
