Diwali, World Kindness Day, Indian Pudding Day, more

November 13th, 2012, is Diwali, World Kindness Day, National Young Readers' Day, and National Indian Pudding Day.

India begins the celebration called Diwali today. It is also known as the Festival of Lights, during which people pray to the goddess Laxmi, hoping for prosperity and wealth.

November 13th is World Kindness Day. According to the World Kindness Movement, World Kindness Day is a time to "look beyond ourselves, beyond the boundaries of our country, beyond our culture, our race, our religion; and realise we are citizens of the world."

National Young Readers' Day is celebrated on the second Tuesday in November. Share a good book with your little ones!

National Indian Pudding Day honors a custard featuring corn meal, molasses, and sometimes apples. Oddly enough, Indian pudding seems to be an invention of the Pilgrims, not the Native Americans.
