Transit of Venus on June 5th and 6th, 2012

June 5th and 6th, 2012, bring a rare event - the transit of Venus. Venus will appear as a small dark circle moving across the sun, over a period of hours. This spectacle will happen in the afternoon on June 5th in much of the Western Hemisphere; at sunrise and in the morning on June 6th in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Do not look at the sun directly during the transit of Venus. Use a safe viewing method - visit a science center or other public viewing, construct a pinhole camera, or view webcams.

Take time to witness this alignment of sun and planets, because the next transit of Venus won't take place until December 11th, 2117. Few of us will be around by then, and probably none of us will care.
