Make a Gift Day, SKYWARN Recognition Day, more

December 3rd, 2011, is Make a Gift Day, Great Christmas Pudding Race, Chester Greenwood Day, National Roof Over Your Head Day, SKYWARN Recognition Day, and International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Make a Gift Day gets to a basic sentiment of the holiday season. A homemade gift comes from the heart. Cookies, crafts, personalized coupons - the choices are endless.

The Great Christmas Pudding Race is run on November 3rd in London and Brighton, UK, to raise funds for cancer research. Christmas pudding is made with dried fruit, nuts, mutton fat, treacle, and dark beer.

Chester Greenwood Day honors the inventor of earmuffs. Events in Farmington, Maine, USA, include a parade, chili contest, gingerbread house contest, and - of course - an earmuff fashion show.

National Roof Over Your Head Day is a time to be grateful if you have a roof over your head, and to find ways to help those who don't.

SKYWARN Recognition Day was founded by the National Weather Service in 1999, to say thank you to the volunteer radio operators who make up the SKYWARN system. Volunteers are trained as severe weather spotters, working to keep communities safe.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities was founded in 1992 by the United Nations, "to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities."
