Extraterrestrial Culture Day, Laugh and Get Rich Day, more

February 8th, 2012, is Extraterrestrial Culture Day, Laugh and Get Rich Day, Empire State Building Run-Up, Kite Flying Day, Waste-Not Wednesday, Tu B'Shevat, Preseren Day, and National Molasses Bar Day.

Roswell, New Mexico, the home of Area 51, celebrates Extraterrestrial Culture Day today. Gather your Reese's Pieces, your mashed potatoes, your foil helmet, whatever you think is necessary.

Laughter is essential to good health and a positive outlook, but apparently laughter is also a means of attaining wealth. Who knew? Celebrate Laugh and Get Rich Day, then feel free to send me a commission.

If you're in really great shape, maybe you received an invitation to participate in this year's Empire State Building Run-Up. Perhaps my invitation got lost in the mail! Incidentally, the Empire State Building in New York City has 1,860 steps from street level to the 102nd floor.

February is a funny time to celebrate Kite Flying Day, but I'm just a humble reporter of holidays. I don't set the schedule.

Wednesday of Go Green Week is Waste-Not Wednesday. Try your best to consume less, waste less, and recycle more.

Tu B'Shevat is a Jewish holiday, known as New Year for Trees. The holiday occurs on the fifteenth day of Shevat. Many Jews eat fruit to celebrate; some try to eat a new fruit.

Preseren Day, the Slovenian cultural holiday, celebrates the talents of Slovenians in general and poet France Preseren in particular.
