Fiesta La Patrona, Kadooment Day, Ice Cream Sandwich Day, more

August 2nd, 2012, is Fiesta La Patrona, Kadooment Day, Lady of the Angels Day, and National Ice Cream Sandwich Day.

Fiesta La Patrona takes place in Pollenca, Spain. Villagers dress in pajamas and take to the streets with sticks and swords, to reenact the 1550 battle between local hero Joan Mas and invading Barbary Pirates.

Citizens of Barbados celebrate Kadooment Day today. They harvest and sell their crops in a parade and carnival atmosphere.

Costa Rica celebrates Lady of the Angels Day, honoring the appearance of a young girl called La Negrita.

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day is always observed on August 2nd, helping us through a hot day near the end of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
