Day Against Nuclear Tests; More Herbs, Less Salt Day; more

August 29th, 2012, is Willing to Lend a Hand Wednesday; According to Hoyle Day; International Day Against Nuclear Tests; Thiru Onam; National More Herbs, Less Salt Day; and National Lemon Juice Day.

The last Wednesday in August is Willing to Lend a Hand Wednesday. Look around - surely someone nearby needs help toting groceries, meeting a deadline, tending their garden, or surviving until payday. Be there to lend a hand!

August 29th is International Day Against Nuclear Tests, sponsored by the United Nations. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon writes: "On this Day, I pledge to personally continue promoting the cause of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and to intensify my efforts to encourage all remaining States to ratify the CTBT."

In 2012, India observes Thiru Onam on August 29th. This is the most important day of a ten-day harvest festival celebrating the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali.
