Dress Up Your Pet Day, Straw Bear Day, more

January 14th, 2012, is Dress Up Your Pet Day, Great Fruitcake Toss, Organize Your Home Day, Schlitteda Engiadinaisa, Miss America Pageant, Makar Sankranti, and National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day.

National Dress Up Your Pet Day is silly or serious, depending on your point of view. Celebrate if you and your four-legged friend agree on style!

Fruitcakes get no respect. Manitau Springs, Colorado, hosts the Great Fruitcake Toss, featuring a Hand Toss, Kids' Toss, Pneumatic Gun or Cannon, Team Catch, and more.

January 14th is Organize Your Home Day, which is in concord with many new year's resolutions. Kudos to you if you can finish the job in one day!

Schlitteda Engiadinaisa in St. Moritz, Switzerland, is a race featuring old sleighs and traditional costumes. Each racer selects a woman to cling to his back during the race.

The 2012 Miss America Pageant takes place tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pageant promotes "style, service, scholarship and success."

Makar Sankranti is a harvest festival celebrated in India, Nepal, Malaysia, and Thailand.

January 14th is National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, a very specific sandwich celebration. Don't eat it cold, mind you.
